Where did you hear about Project Daisychain? From Reb!

[IC Information]
Character Name:Sokka
Series:Avatar: The Last Airbender
Gender:Male
Age:15
Species:Human
Sexuality:Super-duper straight

Appearance: Sokka is an average height and build for his age, still needing a final growth spurt and is of a rather slim build. His skin tone is dark, something of a light coffee color, and his eyes are bright blue.

Sokka’s hair is brown, and styled in a strange mix of a mullet, a crew cut, and a pony tail, with the back and sides shaved, but the top left long and pulled back into a ponytail (which he will aptly correct and say is a ‘warrior’s wolf tail’).

In the series, Sokka’s clothes reflect what he needs at the time, however, he will arrive in Manhattan wearing a light blue tunic with white trim. He also wears black ‘arm warmers’ that extend over the back of his hands, hooking over the middle two fingers. Above his wrists, he wraps his arms in white fighting bandages. His pants are the same black as his arm pieces, and his knee-high boots are made of a sturdy sienna brown leather, with white fur around the edge. Finally, around his neck is a white shell necklace.

Personality:In short, Sokka describes himself as the sarcasm, meat, and ideas guy. However, his sarcastic attitude is often a constant source of humor, but is also an occasional cause of social abrasion. In these bouts of social ineptitude, Sokka simply tends to say the wrong things at the wrong times… Yet, he somehow seems to attract the attentions of girls fairly well, and can be something of a flirt.

Beyond all of this, however, Sokka is really a team player, and in spite of being mortified of public speaking, is a good leader. He’s fiercely protective of his friends and family, and those who get to know him know that behind all of the sarcasm and silliness, Sokka can be a caring, gentle guy.

However, in spite of all of his companions being able to manipulate (or Bend) one or more of the four elements, Sokka isn’t always so thrilled with the ‘magic’ stuff that’s going on, and while he is a bit impatient anyway, his patience runs thin when it comes to issues regarding supernatural things.

Yet, while his friends bend elements, Sokka bends rules. He tends to skirt the edges of morality now and again, if he deems it important. Oftentimes, though, this backfires on him a bit, and he has to learn the hard way.

Sokka is often constructively pessimistic, and while usually fairly good-natured, Sokka can hold a grudge. This is expressed primarily in his distrust of the Fire Nation, whos troops killed his mother. He also can get rather jealous or downtrodden when he feels he cannot contribute to a group effort, and rarely likes to admit he’s wrong… he can be rather stubborn, when he thinks he’s right.

Sokka is rather imaginative, and this usually manifests in ridiculous ideas and behaviors. Paired with this is a sharp wit—Sokka can come up with an idea in an instant. That being said, while the idea is usually very creative and oftentimes amusing, it isn’t always good for the situation at hand.

Sokka’s sense of humor is peculiar… he often laughs at jokes no one else gets, and is able to make others laugh without meaning to. Thus, Sokka is something of a goof-ball. Adding to this image, Sokka has a “natural curiosity” that occasionally gets him hilariously into trouble when his creative streak overrules his sense of logic.

Sokka is quite fond of meat, and is a regular hunter (he will be very sad in Daisychain, with no animals about)… he also can be a bit of a pack-rat and adores shopping, and even when downtrodden as can be, the prospect of it is enough to perk him right up. However, this can often turn out to be useful for his comrades, because he is often the best prepared of them all.

Abilities: (For superhuman powers/strength/abilities, describe how they will be limited)
The majority of the time, Sokka is able to hash out good plans fairly quickly, and in spite of his inability to give a speech, makes a good leader when the going gets tough.

What he lacks in supernatural capabilities, Sokka makes up for in his practicality. He tends to show a great deal of aptitude toward the sciences, and logic (Though, sometimes his spontaneity gets in the way of logic). Thus, he is often a good problem-solver, and even a fairly good engineer.

Sokka is good at using what he has at hand, able to use his environment in his best interests, be it building a look out tower out of nothing but snow and ice, or bending bamboo while running, so it lashes at his pursuer. His resourcefulness extends beyond militant things though, and he happens to be a decent hunter-gatherer. Oftentimes, he can scrounge up a bit of food when rations are running low.

He, while not a master by any means, is well versed in many weapons, however is most adept at using the sword, boomerang, or club. This diverse aptitude also allows him to use unorthodox things as weapons. Speaking of such things, Sokka has been trained as a sword smith, and, if he has access to the proper facilities and materials, is able to fashion swords… With some work, he can make other weapons as well.

However, Sokka is not all sarcasm and practical abilities… he actually is a bit of a natural when it comes to haiku.

Weaknesses: Wile Sokka may be a natural poet, his hand at drawing is rather poor (Though, he would beg to differ).

Also, while Sokka may be very agile in combat, he also has his awkward or clumsy moments. Also, he lacks the bulk or brawn to do much of anything when it comes to sheer power. In a fistfight, Sokka is in a severe disadvantage.

As mentioned earlier, Sokka’s curiosity can get the better of him, and sometimes his rash behavior gets him into trouble. Also, while often very clever, he isn’t always. Sometimes he simply fails to think things out completely, and his decisions come back to bite him… In fact, sometimes, Sokka’s silly tendencies flow over into his decision making.

Sokka can occasionally be a bit dumb around girls… at this point, part of this is because Sokka carries a heavy emotional burden. He sometimes feels that he is responsible for the death of Princess Yue, whom he cared deeply for. This can get him down, and impede his abilities.

Sokka occasionally talks to god/the universe, which may seem a bit odd to those who don’t know him.

And, finally, should Sokka’s hair tie get pulled off, his hair floofs into a laughably bushy mess.

Manhattanite or outsider? Outsider. Definitely an outsider.

History: (LOOONG history, three seasons to cover O.o)

Sokka was born and raised in the Southern Water Tribe, located at the south pole of his version of the world. When he was young, his mother was killed by the Fire Nation, and his father went off to fight in the war the Fire Nation had started with the rest of the world.

This left Sokka alone with his sister Katara, a water bender whom his father had asked him to look after, and their GranGran, Kana. As time passed, Sokka trained himself in the ways of the warrior, building lookout towers and the like while trying to train the village’s young boys.

However, his life changed dramatically after going on a spear-fishing trip with his sister. They uncover an iceberg that’s harboring Aang, who is not only the avatar, one who is able to learn to use all elements, but who is also the very last Airbender. Along with him was Appa, a flying bison companion of Aang’s.

Sokka soon found that he, his sister and newfound friend are under siege, because Zuko, the banished prince of the Fire Nation, had been sent to capture the avatar and restore his honor.

Deciding that Aang should learn Waterbending first (and that Katara can learn from a Waterbending master with him) The unlikely trio headed toward the North Pole, where the Northern Water Tribe resides.

On the way, they deal with the Earth Kingdom, and Sokka meets Suki, a warrior whom he underestimates because she’s female. By the end of his encounter with her, he had most certainly learned not to judge based on gender.

As their adventure continued, they encountered a variety of different benders, people, and situations, including Jett, a rebel, who Sokka discovered was not as honest as he appeared, and the gang also heard rumors of Airbenders farther north.

As it turned out, they were not Airbenders, but people with mechanical gliders, designed by “The Mechanist,” a scientist whom Sokka got along with fabulously. Together, they were able to exchange ideas and fashion a “war balloon.”

When they reached the north pole, Sokka met Princess Yue, whom he fell for at first sight. They were able to bond while Aang and Katara managed to get in some training… however, when the Fire Nation attacked, Yue’s life was lost, and Sokka blamed himself.

That loss still looming over them. The group headed to the Earth Kingdom, where they encountered and eventually teamed up with Toph, a blind Earthbender of astonishing ability.

As Aang learned Earthbending from Toph, the group headed to a semi-mythical library guarded by a knowledge spirit. There, Sokka learned that Firebenders are powerless during the time of the solar eclipse, and the date of the next one. (He also snuck off with a few scrolls). When they emerged, they found that their flying bison was missing, and Aang was notably upset.

Sokka learned the poor side effects of cactus juice.

In their search, they headed toward Serpent’s Pass, where Suki and Sokka reunited. After experiencing a good deal of upset due to a sea serpent, Sokka and Suki expressed a certain fondness for one another before they had to part again.

When they reached Ba Sing Se, the Earth Kingdom capital, they met resistance from their ‘help,” but Sokka learned that he is a fabulous poet. After a clash with the earth king, as well as Zuko, Aang was horribly hurt and they were forced to continue on.

They all managed to get their hands on a Fire Nation ship and sets of armor, and were able to transport Aang safely with it. Sokka found the fact that the world believed Aang to be dead to be a great asset. Aang begged to differ.

Sokka soon began to feel inadequate because of his lack of bending abilities, so he perused the tutelage of a swords master. He displayed an incredible amount of creativity in his training, though not so much skill. He learned to wield and fashion his own sword (he uses a meteorite to make it, and gives Toph a bit of it too, aww) before he admitted his true heritage to his master, and after a conflict, left on good terms.

When in a pinch, Sokka helped Toph gamble to get a little extra cash… they learned the err of this in the end of this venture.

When the day of the solar eclipse arrived, Sokka first appeared a bit foolish because he was not able to articulate his battle plans in front of a group of soldiers… but, he proved his worth as a leader n the field, by helping Aang in his attempts to reach the fire lord.

However, toward the end of the eclipse, Sokka was overcome with a sudden bout of exhaustion, and collapsed, only to awaken in the desolate land of Manhattan in Project Daisychain.
